CONCERT BAND
In addition to all of the positive growth happening on the marching band field, growth was also occuring in the classroom. Students' technical skills began to improve, which allowed for the study of more challenging band literature.
Various tools were used in grading and assessing instrumental band students, including the following guidelines for assessment in a Band Rehearsal.
Other tools that I use are the Instrumental Lesson Grading sheet found in the back of the Instrumental Hand Book and a weekly practice log that I require to be completed and signed by a parent.
Milton Area School District does not require daily lesson plans, but rather unit plans that include entire concepts. In order to conform to this, I view each concert season as a unit. I develop one unit plan at the begining of each concert season that outlines rehearsal procedures per week. Please see sample Band Unit Plan below.
I developed and spearheaded the writing of a music theory course, which I currently instruct. In its second year, this advanced-level class is showing strong enrollment with increased student interest.

As part of our study of the inner workings of music students are asked to compose a short choral. Below are three examples of student work that have been assessed at the "Partially Proficent," "Proficient," and "Advanced" Levels.
